A journey with Metal
Will’s practice was established in 2009 after several years as a journeyman working with renowned blacksmiths in the UK, Ukraine, Russia, Japan, USA and Europe.
He is a fully qualified blacksmith and boiler maker, with further training in design and botanical drawing. He has received an Arts degree with distinction in Philosophy, and first class Honours in material Anthropology studying the liveliness of iron.
Today, the workshop is a repurposed dairy in the beautiful NSW Hunter Valley where he designs and makes original works for galleries and the often quirky places of interesting people.
His sculpture is exhibited widely national and internationally in UK, USA, Germany, France and Belgium. It is acquired by institutions and companies such as the University of Newcastle (NSW), Hereford Collage of Art (UK) and AGL energy; along with numerous private collections. Over a dozen major works form part of national and international public art collections in Canberra (ACT), Maribyrnong (VIC), Newcastle (NSW), Wagga Wagga (NSW), Maitland (NSW), Singleton (NSW), Muswellbrook (NSW), Cessnock (NSW), Langemark-Poelkapelle (Belgium), and Hereford (UK). Will has a dedicated chapter in the 2022 Metal design international published in German and English (by German publisher Verlag Hephaistos). And, in 2025 he was invited to deliver the inaugural Basnett Public Lecture and Master Class at the Hereford collage of the arts UK.

Steel is one of the most durable and recyclable materials on earth but it does require a lot of energy to produce and work with. As a small, socially conscious studio which cares deeply about its impact on the planet we act to reduce waste and burn less energy in our planning, material reclaiming and use of technology in our making processes. However, primarily we justify our impact through the multi-generational longevity of what we make, and an ethos of making less with more care and meaning, and in doing so stimulate a positive impact through beauty, and building reverence for our surroundings.
